Billy “Joe” Christian Jr, 61, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in Springfield, Missouri.
Joe was born November 9, 1964, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to Billy Joe Christian Sr. and Jean Carter. He graduated from Roland High School in 1983. After graduation, Joe spent his life as a self-employed “jack of all trades,” always willing to work with his hands and take on whatever challenge came his way.
Joe married Barbara Heckmaster on November 4, 2013, surrounded by their “Deer Camp” family and loved ones at Eucha Lake where they spent deer season together each year.
Joe had a larger-than-life personality. He could fill a room—or even a stadium—with his voice, laughter, and presence. At the same time, he was never afraid to be quiet and enjoy the peace of fishing, hunting, and being outdoors.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Glenda Verner; and his brothers, Vernon Cloud and Adam Carter.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home; his sister Tina Woods (Rocky Woods Jr) of Roland, Oklahoma, brother Cody Christian (Ashleigh) of Fort Smith, Arkansas, his children and stepchildren, including Kevin Christian (Tiffany) of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Brooke Garcia (Josh) of Poteau, Oklahoma, Helen Wells (Mike) of Whitehouse, Texas, Charles Mensch of Aurora, Colorado, Leslie Heckmaster of Miller, Missouri, Lori McCracken (Marvin) of Monett, Missouri, Erica Lechner (Jared) of Verona, Missouri; as well as his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, extended family, and many friends who loved him dearly.
Joe will be remembered for his unmistakable voice, infectious laughter, generous spirit, and the love he had for his family, hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. His presence brought energy and laughter wherever he went, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves behind 24 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, along with a lifetime of memories that will be cherished by his family.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
