William C. Forman, (affectionally known as “Mr. Bill”) 89, of Springfield MO passed peacefully at home on August 28, 2026. He grew up in Evanston IL, attended Lake Forest College, and then served as a Drill Instructor in the U.S. Marine Corp. Bill served as a deacon at Glenview Community Church. He was a salesman most of his life. In the late 70’s he moved to Hawaii for several years before returning the mainland where he settled in Springfield MO in the early 80’s. He worked for JC Penny’s in furniture sales until retiring. After his wife Joan passed in 2006, he joined Christ Community Church. He was a church greeter and frequent volunteer. He also volunteered for the Boys & Girls Town as well as a Global University, and Meals on Wheels. Bill was always active helping out wherever he could. When he wasn’t doing work for those in need, he was on the links golfing. Bill was an avid golfer and really enjoyed the time course with his close friends. As a Chicago native, he was also a big Cubs & Bears fan. Mostly, Bill was dedicated to his extended family of Christ Community Church. He always had a positive smile and welcoming heart for everyone. He was always willing to help.
Bill was preceded in death by his second wife, Joan; his son Will; his daughter Gail, and his granddaughter Valerie. He is survived by his first wife Mary Ellen, his daughter Tracy, and his two son’s Jim & Garry, his five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating Bill’s exceptional life will be held on September 26, 2026 at 10:30am at the Christ Community Church, 4224 S Farm Rd 115, Brookline, MO . We invite all who knew and loved Bill to join us in honoring his memory. A private burial ceremony for his family will be held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield on a separate date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Children’s Cancer Research Fund. Bill wished to be remembered by “to live is Christ, to die is gain”
